Hello Again!

It’s kinda hard to believe that it has been 6 months since we decamped to Sherkin for the second edition of Open Ear. And so as the leaves turn to gold and gently float to the ground while the evenings close in around us, what better time to start revisiting some past memories and also start looking to the future…

First off, we want to sa...

Things n' Stuff

Clothing and Footwear

Just like at any festival we all wish for the sun to be splitting the rocks, and we know we had it rather special on the island last year but this is Ireland and this an outdoor festival so we do advise that you pack for all occasions. The festival site is very small and we do have plenty of covered ...

Some thoughts on Open Ear by Jonny Dillon aka Automatic Tasty

Many of you may know Jonny Dillon under his alias of Automatic Tasty, who has for nearly ten years now been releasing his personal and idiosyncratic take on electronic dancing music. But Jonny also works in the National Folklore Collection in UCD, one of the world’s largest repositories of folkloric material. With this in mind we asked Jonny to ...

Naive Ted - Death of Me

Aaaand we got some more new music for y'all. And by new we mean NEW as Naive Ted handed this one over the moment he got it back from being mastered. Pretty damn sound of him, if you ask us. For dancing club enthusiasts in the know based in Dublin, Dip has become a well known and well regarded party over the last couple of years. Where most parties bombard you with the latest international hype names, Dip has much more of a local focus, which is what we dig here at Open Ear. One of those local names, and one of the party's residents...

JP Hartnett - Stephenson

A definite highlight for many at least years festival  was when we debunked to the Jolly Roger pub on the final day for a wonderful Sunday session wherein everyone got to take some time out, recharge the batteries and then try and drink the pub dry (we succeeded btw) before heading back to the site for the closing sets of the festival.

We're back on the dancefloor this time around with this cut of Chi-town inspired acid from Dublin producer, Cignol.

Possibly rarer than a he...

Be Honest - Pena

Next up for our exclusive previews for the festival is the work of Ian Maleney aka, Be Honest. Ian has been performing sporadic live shows over the last few years with his performance at the Out To Lunch weekender back in August especially grabbing our attention. The Be Honest project presents ambient music as a collage of field recordings, mach...
